Community Arts & Funk Festival


The Community Arts & Funk Festival is committed to promoting arts advocacy through visual/performing arts awareness, education, entrepreneurism, and collector development; including fine art and cultural memorabilia.


The aim of the Community Arts & Funk Festival is to promote “Unity in the Community” by showcasing a collective of artist and youth serving organizations through visual and performing arts advocacy, cultural awareness, and entertainment.

To inspire and support cultural arts education and creative economy entrepreneurism, in all forms of artistic expression, learning, and production.

Mission accomplished:

 Free general admission to arts festival

 Free – open to public – visual/performing artist lead workshops

  Children’s performances, activities, and workshops

 Adult and teen visual arts competition and open galleries

 Live original adult and youth music/theatric performances

Creative economy merchant vendors

A collective representation of partnering artist and youth serving arts organizations


Ÿ         Hosted the 2oth Anniversary Celebration of Arts Wisconsin and acknowledged participants in  the establishment of the “Artellectuals” – a community collector and curator resource group that is devoted to collector the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts- August 24, 2012

Ÿ         Featured the ‘STAGES of ART’ Exhibition in Gallery M, at The Intercontinental Hotel- August 28 – September 28, 2012

Ÿ         Hosted  the Washington Park ‘Arts & Culture Day-August 8, 2012

Ÿ         Have awarded over $4,500 in cash prizes and awards to established, emerging, and young artists from Milwaukee and surrounding areas.

Ÿ         Featured Grammy Award winner Harvey Scales as guest host for live music performances

Ÿ         Featured world renowned sculptor Richard Hunt as Judge of Distinction in 2011.

Ÿ         Attracted over 1,500 people in 2011 – an increase of 200% from inaugural festival in 2010.

Ÿ         Showcased the artwork, performances, and poetry of community children and adolescents in an outdoor scenic pavilion setting.

Ÿ         Featured eclectic, original live music by some of the region’s hottest contemporary ‘funk rock’ and ‘power chord soul’ performers in the Midwest.

Goals for 2013:

Ÿ Seek presenting sponsor for the festival

Ÿ Raise $40,000 to produce the 2013 festival

Ÿ Develop merchandise to generate revenue

 Expand size of festival through extensive marketing campaign

Ÿ         Educate the broader public about the historic relevance and significant influence that funk music has had on contemporary popular culture through the development of a “History of Funk” timeline art installation. Educating, enlightening, entertaining, and even inspiring viewers and participants.
